B.C. resort fits couple to a tee
For Allan and Janice Hiller, who are approaching retirement in the next couple of years, B.C. has just too many advantages to resist.
The couple purchased a golf villa at the Canyon Desert Resort in the Southern Okanagan community of Oliver, where the winters are milder, the summers are longer and where “we will be away from the hustle and bustle of a big city and not deal with traffic.”
The 57-year-old Allan, who has lived in Calgary since he was five, says he and his wife looked at the U.S. as a possible retirement spot, but worried about health coverage, as well as the fact they could only stay there six months in a year and “then would have to come back to another place.”
While vacationing in the Okanagan, something they have done for years, they were golfing at the Nk’Mip Canyon Desert golf course (one of the oldest golf courses in the area which is part of the new development) and saw the sign for the Canyon Desert community.
